Project Description
Project overview
For this project we were contracted by an Ottawa-based General Contractor to design and pre-fabricate an insulated panel system to clad a 4 storey light-gauge steel building to meet the German PassivHaus energy standard. Components supplied included magnesium board faced EPS panels for insulating below-grade walls, non-structural above-grade wall cladding panels and structural roof panels.
.
Project highlights
- All thermal insulation in the building enclosure was provided by the pre-fabricated panels. No insulation was installed in the light-gauge steel structural frame.
- Panel design incorporated overlapping sections of graphite-infused EPS to reduce impact of thermal expansion / contraction of the rigid foam insulation.
- To maintain tight panel tolerances a project-specific steel jig was designed and built to facilitate manufacturing of panels as large as 12” thick x 6’ wide x 18’ long.
